I'm not there - Poster analysis

This poster is very conventional as it is following a biography of a famous character. In this poster for the film 'I'm not there', we see a mid-shot of the character character in the shadows smoking a cigarette. This character is famous among music lovers world wide, by using a famous character this attracts the target audience to view the film, this image portrays a famous image (right) therefore being easily recognised by the use of hairstyle, cigarette and sunglasses props. The character in the dark creates a mysterious type effect, while the cigarette illuminates one part of his face revealing a lighter side. This questions the audience as to why this character is hidden in the dark, attracting them to find out what's going on in the film. The background for the poster is white, which emphasises the mysteriousness of the character and brings out the characters icon more.

The text is in grey on top of the shadow of the character, however the bottom sentence changes colour to make it stand out, this suggest that the target audience is mature. This text also suggest a more 'fantasy' style setting, as the text mentions that all the actors/actress play one character throughout the film, furthermore questioning the audience. However, the cigarette smoking breaks many rules as it advertises smoking making it seem cool and in a fashion like manner.

Overall, this poster is not very conventional poster, but it's successful as it attracts the target audience successfully by the use of an iconic character in the poster, furthermore, the colours also communicate with the audience as it questions the audience making them think, as it has a sinister, mystery effect.
